National Apprenticeship Week

… Grant and Kieran, apprentices from KP Tanfield, have written about their experiences of their apprenticeship so far:

‘We are Kieran and Grant and we’re the first apprentices that the Tanfield site has employed. We came across this apprenticeship while we were studying at Derwentside College. We started our apprenticeship in August 2013 and we passed our three month probation period, which we were very happy about.

One of the main highlights of our experience so far was our family tour; which consisted of planning and organisation from us and others. We had to organise a date and time when the factory was at its busiest period so that they could see everything that ran on our production line.

We are currently starting our skill spec and have got off to a start with our NVQ. Our tutor comes in every two weeks to assess us and give us a new unit to complete.

We’re also currently doing two weeks in engineering and two weeks in production so that we can understand the lines and the machinery that they work with on a day to day basis. We are very happy with how this apprenticeship has gone so far and we’re looking forward to our future with the company.
