Winning pub announced in McCoy’s competition
The Old Star Inn in Winsford, Cheshire, has been named as the winning pub in McCoy’s ‘Put a Pub on a Plane to Rio’ competition.
Landlord Ernie, along with nine lucky locals, will be watching the football in style this summer when McCoy’s recreates the Old Star Inn in Rio, complete with wooden pub sign, traditional fireplace, a colourful pool table area, darts board and distinctive wooden bar, along with gear from the pub’s regular quiz, disco and karaoke nights.
For those of the Old Star Inn’s customers in Winsford not lucky enough to go to Rio, there will also be a very special pub quiz. This will be hosted during May by comedian and Rio McCoy’s Local campaign ambassador, Al Murray – The Pub Landlord, who was also on the official judging panel which crowned The Old Star Inn the winner.
Al Murray, The Pub Landlord, commented: “It was a really tough competition and all the top five who made the shortlist were really great examples of what a proper British pub should be, at the centre of their community, providing a fantastic atmosphere and of course hosted by a magnificent landlord or lady.”
