Packaging improvement

Using as little plastic packaging as possible

We are working tirelessly to reduce plastic packaging, both in distribution and by re-engineering our snack packs to cut the amount of plastic film they need.

We have reduced our use of plastic packaging by 3,400 tonnes over the past ten years and all our crisp and snack bags are now recyclable (nuts packaging is trickier but we’re well on the way to recyclability for that too).  Our approach also ensures that all our plastic packaging is fit for purpose and optimised to maintain product quality. This includes cutting plastic film on Hula Hoops, McCoy’s, Popchips, Tyrrell’s, Pom-Bear, Space Raiders, Nik Naks, Roysters, Discos and Frisps.

We are supporting the development of UK recycling infrastructure (see Partnerships to Improve Recycling) to ensure that all our plastic packaging can be effectively recycled, either through collection points or on the doorstep.  And we’ve started to introduce recycled plastic to our packaging, such as for our latest Tyrrells bags.

Contributing to targets

  • Use as little plastic packaging as possible
  • Work with the Flexible Plastics Fund to support investment in recycling infrastructure
  • Source recycled content as it becomes commercially available
  • Achieve 100% recyclability for what we do use by the end of 2025
