Partnerships for change

Flexible packaging plays an important role in keeping our snacks fresh and protecting product quality. While more of this material is being collected for recycling, the UK still needs greater collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure to enable flexible packaging to be recycled at scale.

This is a system-wide challenge that cannot be solved by any one business alone and is why we actively collaborate across the value chain through initiatives such as the UK Packaging Pact and the Flexible Plastics Fund to help support the investment, innovation and evidence needed to build a more circular packaging system in the UK. Through these partnerships, we are working with industry, government and other stakeholders to improve the collection, sorting and recycling of flexible packaging and help accelerate long-term infrastructure development.

On Pack Recycling Label

To help consumers recycle more packaging correctly, we are a member of the On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL) scheme. OPRL provides clear, consistent recycling instructions on packaging, helping people understand how and where different packaging materials can be recycled.

OPRL labelling has been appearing across our packaging portfolio since 2022, supporting the wider transition towards a more circular packaging system. For our flexible plastic packaging, the label directs consumers to appropriate collection routes, including participating supermarket collection points where available. Consumers can find their nearest collection location using RecycleNow’s Locator tool.

Flexible Plastics Fund

KP Snacks is a member of the Flexible Plastic Fund (FPF), a cross-industry initiative helping to improve the collection, sorting and recycling of flexible plastic packaging in the UK. Through collaboration across the packaging value chain, the FPF aims to support the development of the infrastructure and systems needed to recycle flexible plastics at scale.

As part of this work, KP Snacks supported the FPF's FlexCollect programme, a three-year pilot that explored how flexible plastics could be collected through household recycling services. Working with 10 local authorities and approximately 160,000 households, the programme processed more than 400 tonnes of flexible plastics, demonstrating that flexible packaging can be collected, sorted and recycled at scale. Insights from the programme are helping to inform the future development of UK recycling infrastructure and collection systems.
